A regional logistics depot relied on cloud transport systems, barcode scanning, vehicle scheduling, CCTV access and VoIP. Even a short internet outage caused manual workarounds and delayed dispatch decisions.

The requirement

The depot needed a backup service that would activate automatically, but it also needed realistic expectations. Mobile connectivity could preserve critical applications during a fault, but it was not intended to replace the full capacity of the primary connection.

Voice, transport management and essential administration were prioritised. Large updates, guest Wi-Fi and bulk transfers could be restricted during a mobile failover event.

  2. Agree which applications must continue during an outage.
  3. Install the backup router and test signal stability.
  4. Configure health checks, routing policy and alerts.
  5. Run controlled failover and recovery tests with the customer.

Commercial and operational outcome

The depot gained a documented continuity path for common access failures. Staff knew which services would continue, which would be limited and how the support team would respond. Regular testing reduced the risk of discovering a failed SIM, antenna or policy only during a real incident.

What this scenario demonstrates

Backup connectivity should be designed around business priorities. A second connection has limited value if both services share the same physical route, if failover is never tested or if non-essential traffic consumes the emergency capacity.
